The Design Stage
I spent the beginning of this week working on transforming the animals from my quilting fabric into cute versions of video game characters. What I did was trace the basic outlines from the fabric and add details.
So far the only one that I consider to be done is the owl. Adding giant eyebrows was all it took to turn him into the Zelda owl.
The other part of the design process is to decide on the overall layout for the quilt. I made a few rough plans using photoshop but honestly I felt a little stuck.
So I spent a little bit of time browsing quilt designs on Pinterest. I still have a lot of decisions to make but the most basic one is whether I want to go with something traditional and simple like this quilt from Nanacompany at typepad.com,
or
Something less traditional with a wide variety of sizes like this design from Sew Mama Sew.
I havn't made a final decision but I'm leaning toward the second style. I think it makes a more chaotic look that will contrast well with the white space around the embroidered designs.
