Wonder Woman '84 Review

First things first, this review is full of spoilers! Beware!

Generally speaking, I try to enjoy things on their own, as they are. So if a movie doesn’t exactly follow the book it was based on it’s ok as long as it was enjoyable in its own right.  I don’t want to be one of those fans who constantly complains that everything is awful because it doesn’t completely conform to previous iterations. Therefore I am a bit disappointed with myself because I am really annoyed with some of the decisions they made in the new Wonder Woman movie, it could have been much better. But here we are. When we initially watched the movie I enjoyed it but didn't think it was great. It was fun while we were watching it but afterward, the more I thought about it, the more I disliked it.

Brickworld - Kansas City

We spent some time at a local Brickworld event last weekend and it was awesome. If you want to see some creative and impressive Lego builds you should scroll down for photos.

As we walked in we were greeted by a massive Castle/ Town display.

There is so much going on in this build, you spend forever looking around and still miss fun details.

There were also a number of ninjas hidden throughout.

There were several large city displays.

One of the coolest things was seeing some local landmarks re-created in Lego.

Motorcycle Daredevil atop the Western Auto Building

Lego Movie at the Alamo Draft House

Typical line at Joe's Kc

There was also a ton of cool space displays and really interesting Lego plant life.

There was so much to see it's hard to choose what to share.

If you have a chance to attend an event in your area I would definitely check it out.

Miniature Building and Painting

At the beginning of the year, I started a new job. It is a job that I love and it's closer to home so things have been great. We got a new tiny kitten at Thanksgiving and he has already gotten so big. His name is Shiro, after the Black Paladin of Voltron, and he is the paladin of snuggles.

My husband and I have also started experimenting with new crafts. We've started playing around with resin. Right now, we are mostly just trying things out but eventually, I want to make dice and jewels to use for decorating book covers. Here are some things we've made while working on ways to get different colors.

We also took a painting class at our local gaming store and have started painting miniatures.

Here's the mini's from our class:

Myself
Husband

Currently, I am painting this wagon for my husband to use while running Curse of Strahd.

Work in Progress
Finally, I am almost done building my own beholder miniature. I used the tutorial from this video for the basics but decided to try a different idea for creating skin texture. I wanted something that looked lizardy and wart-like so I covered the body with googly eyes. It was particularly bizarre-looking before adding paint. Currently, it is almost complete, only needing teeth and paint.

Craft Miscellany

It's been more than 6 months since I last posted and while I haven't been idle in that time I haven't exactly been productive either.

The most interesting, un-craft related thing we've done is visit the Art of the Brick exhibit. It was full of really neat and inspiring Lego art. Below are some of my favorites.

Who doesn't love a Lego dino?

There were several pairs like this, a picture with Lego elements and then the physical Lego build nearby.

Near the end, there was a Lego model of the exhibit itself.

As far as projects go, the big thing I'm working on is recovering a chair.  I have inherited a large golden chair that was upholstered by my paternal grandmother as a wedding gift for my parents. At one time it had a sofa that matched but my parents got rid of it long ago. It has been in our apartment/house since our wedding and unfortunately had really been torn up by our cats.

Before Photo

I am not very far along in the process. I have broken the chair down and its ready to be recovered but I need to buy new cotton batting before I can get started.

Found a random assortment of items lost inside the chair.

I also spent a little time making dog bandanas for my brother-in-law's dogs as a housewarming gift since they just bought their first house.

This is Toph and Kida, visiting our house for the Fourth of July.

I used freezer paper stencils to add designs.

Rock fabric and Earth Nation emblem for Toph and waves with the crystal from Atlantis for Kida.
We have also started our Seafall game. We are about 3 sessions into it. I haven't been able to finish the chests I was 3D printing because we had to order a replacement cord. I am actually running test prints while I type this, we should be back up and running.

We also finally put up a shelf in the living room to display our Voltron Lions!

Finally, I've decided to try and make Wakandan battle armor for this plush rhino from Ikea. I don't really know what we are going to do with it when it's done, it's sort of a trial to see if I can do it sort of project.
