Independence Weekend

So I didn't get anything done this weekend. At least not anything creative and fun.

In spite of the fact that it was July 4th weekend we didn't have any weekend plans. Partly because we didn't feel like we could afford much but mostly because I had to work. One of the big reason I keep looking for a new job is because I HATE having to work all the holidays. We closed at 6pm and I was home by 7 but that doesn't leave enough time to get a good seat at any of the big fireworks displays.

My husband grilled some delicious hamburgers and we spent a not at all quiet evening at home.  We live in a city that allows fireworks when may of the surrounding suburbs do not. There is also an elementary school nearby with a large playground. These two things ensure that our neighborhood has a steady stream of visitors coming to set off fireworks.  While we don't mind at all (it means we can see a bunch of fireworks even when we can't afford our own) our cats definitely do not approve. This is what my lap looked like for much of the weekend...

So you can understand why I didn't get any projects done. On the upside it seems like all of our cats are getting along great. Our biggest hope was that our little girl, Caramel, would make friends with the kitten. Ever since her sister died she's been really grumpy and kind of anti-social so we wanted to find her a new friend. This weekend not only did they snuggle together but they played chase up and down the hall. Most of the time it was her that initiated the game so it's super exciting.

Curry and Parker have also become buddies and enjoy napping and hunting bugs together. The only cat that continues to remain aloof is Balder. He doesn't hiss at Curry anymore or anything like that he just kind of ignores him and does his own thing. It's adorable because Curry has started to follow him around and tries to be like him and do what he does. He tries to eat out of the same food bowl and hang out in the same places. I'm sure eventually Balder will warm up to him.

He's even starting to learn the routine of the other cats and joined them in a nap in the morning sun.

In the meantime I have some quilting books on hold at the library so that I can get some inspiration for the layout of my woodland quilt. Hopefully I can make time this week to finish up my video game animal designs and get started on the embroidery.
